Aspen Institute Proposal

The Site Plan
The location of our proposed housing is on Meadows Road near the entrance to the Aspen Institute Campus near the parking garage.
Who We Are Housing
We anticipate using our new housing for full-time staff, part-time staff, visa students, and interns. Housing these individuals will contribute to our sustainability and will help us attract and retain talented staff and offer groundbreaking programs and support services to our visitors and the community.

Key Characteristics of Site Plan
-
Protect existing conservation easement and old racetrack.
-
Create green space and improved visual entrance to the Aspen Institute campus.
-
Provide 13 new units with 26 bedrooms in one building.
-
Expand underground parking garage below proposed housing.
-
Provide 29 new parking spaces with 5 parking spaces at grade and 24 parking spaces in expanded parking garage.
-
Move maintenance and storage areas below ground.
-
Removal of the clay tennis court, which has had minimal usage over recent years.
The Architecture
We have proposed a two-story multi-family building with 13 deed-restricted housing units. The building will draw inspiration from the Bauhaus style, a design philosophy known for its emphasis on functionality and minimalism. The building will be consistent with and complimentary to the overall Bauhaus design that exists on campus today.
Transportation and Parking
A key aspect of this proposal is that it provides an opportunity for Aspen Institute employees to live near their jobs, eliminating significant commutes and reducing the traffic impacts at the entrance to Aspen and throughout town. Engineering analysis estimates that the project will reduce trips by approximately 51% because housing is located on site, versus staff commuting from downvalley locations.
The plan includes 29 parking spaces with 5 of them being above ground and the addition of 24 below ground, adding to the 99 in existence for a total of 124 spaces in the parking garage. Additional bicycle parking, bike storage, and golf cart parking are also proposed.
Essential Public Facility
In addition to housing units, a small portion of the property will be used for the relocation of maintenance, storage and engineering space. Most of this will be in the expanded garage area below grade.
